Understanding Dubai Metro Zones
Dubai is divided into 7 public transport zones. The fare you pay depends on the number of zones you cross during your journey. Staying within one zone is the cheapest, while crossing two or more zones increases the fare. The Metro system primarily operates across Zones 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6.
Choosing the Right Nol Card
- Silver Card: Best for regular commuters. Costs AED 25 (includes AED 19 credit). Charges regular fares.
- Gold Card: Access to the Gold Class carriage for a premium seat. Fares are roughly double the Silver rate.
- Red Ticket: Ideal for tourists or single trips. Paper ticket that can be topped up for up to 10 trips or 5 daily passes.
- Blue Card: Personalized card for residents, offering secure balance protection and auto-top-up features.
Metro Operating Hours
Generally, the Dubai Metro runs from 5:00 AM to midnight on weekdays (Mon-Thu), 5:00 AM to 1:00 AM on Fridays, 5:00 AM to midnight on Saturdays, and 8:00 AM to midnight on Sundays. Timings can vary during public holidays.
Important Rules & Fines
- No eating or drinking (including water) inside trains (Fine: AED 100).
- Do not chew gum.
- Do not enter the Gold Class cabin without a Gold Nol card (Fine: AED 100).
- Do not enter the Women & Children cabin if you are a male commuter.
