Dubai Salik Toll Guide: Everything You Need to Know

What is Salik?

Salik is Dubai's electronic road toll collection system, operated by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Launched in 2007, it uses radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology to automatically deduct toll fees when vehicles pass through designated toll gates. The system helps manage traffic flow on Dubai's busiest roads and bridges.

Salik Toll Rates

  • Standard rate: AED 4 per gate crossing (off-peak hours)
  • Peak rate: AED 6 per gate crossing (weekdays 6-10 AM and 4-8 PM)
  • Daily cap: AED 24 maximum per day regardless of number of crossings
  • Weekly cap: AED 100 maximum per week
  • Weekends and public holidays: Standard rate (AED 4) applies all day

How to Get a Salik Tag

Salik tags can be purchased online at salik.ae, through the Salik app, at ENOC and EPPCO fuel stations, or at authorized distributors. The tag costs AED 50 (includes AED 50 credit). It must be affixed to the vehicle's windshield. Vehicles without a valid Salik tag passing through a toll gate incur a fine of AED 50 per crossing.

Tips to Reduce Salik Costs

  • Travel during off-peak hours when possible to pay AED 4 instead of AED 6
  • Consider alternative routes that avoid toll gates for shorter trips
  • Carpool to share Salik costs with passengers
  • Use public transport (Metro, Bus) for daily commutes to avoid tolls entirely
  • Monitor your Salik account regularly to track spending patterns
