Dubai is the largest physical gold trading hub in the Middle East. Daily volumes at the Dubai Gold and Commodities Exchange (DGCX) and at the Deira Gold Souk together set the de facto retail benchmark for 22K and 24K gold across the GCC. Prices are reset roughly every 30 seconds during DGCX trading hours and reflect the international XAU spot price, the fixed AED-USD peg (3.6725), and shop-level making charges.
Buying gold in Dubai
- The Deira Gold Souk and the Dubai Gold and Diamond Park both list daily reference prices on visible boards. Reference prices reset throughout the day.
- Making charges (labour) are charged separately and are negotiable. Expect AED 5 to AED 60 per gram depending on design complexity and shop.
- For 22K jewellery the spot rate plus making charge is your invoice. For 24K investment bars, making charge is usually fixed and small (1 to 3 percent).
- All Dubai retail gold is hallmarked. The Dubai Central Laboratory and ESMA enforce purity. Always check the hallmark stamp.
- No VAT is charged on investment-grade gold (995 fineness or higher). Jewellery is subject to 5 percent UAE VAT.
